How The Grinch Stole Christmas is one of my favorite Christmas stories. While reading it last night to the kids I saw a new side of the story. Normally I read it and think about the Grinch and his transformation, but last night it was the whos that had my attention.
No matter how hard the Grinch tried to take away their Christmas:
“Then he slithered and slunk with a smile most unpleasant, Around the whole room, and he took every present!”
those whos persevered:
“Every who down in who-ville, the tall and the small, was singing! Without any presents at all! He hadn’t stopped Christmas from coming! It came! Somehow or other, it came just the same!”
In real life there is an enemy who looks to steal, kill, and destroy. How we respond to his attacks is what will determine whether or not He wins. The Grinch did NOT steal the whos Christmas because of the joy that was inside of them. No matter what happened they were going to celebrate. I have the same choice before me today. Will I allow my circumstances to take over my attitude, or will I worship and praise the God who has given me everlasting joy, peace, and life?
Shout for joy, you heavens; rejoice, you earth; burst into song, you mountains! For the LORD comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.
Prayer: Lord help me to be full of gratitude today. I will choose to worship you even in the midst of hard circumstances. You are worthy!
